Eduard Folayang promised to give Muay Thai legend John Wayne “The Gunslinger” Parr a fitting finale to an illustrious career, and he did just that at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The former ONE Lightweight World Champion used his deadly wushu striking to outpoint Parr and score a unanimous decision win in the Australian’s explosive retirement bout at ONE X: Grand Finale on March 26.
With the victory, Folayang will be assured of a P500,000 bonus coming from Benguet Caretaker and ACT – CIS partylist representative Eric Go Yap.
"We have pooled our resources at the Office of Benguet Representative that if Folyang wins, we will hand him a cash incentive," Yap earlier said.
It was a dream start for the 38-year-old Filipino, who was making his professional Muay Thai debut after his own storied career in MMA tagging the 45-year-old with a left hand early and then followed up with various combinations of body punches, spinning attacks, and leg kicks.
Rhe Filipino superstar started off with his wushu strikes, battering Parr across the Circle with relentless forward pressure.
Parr tried his best to defend against Folayang’s trademark spinning attacks, but it was clear “The Gunslinger” was a step behind. In the third round, however, Parr hurt Folayang and went on the offensive, forcing “Landslide” on the back foot. Both men made it to the final bell, and Parr left his gloves on the canvas in an emotional send-off.
Earlier, Stephen “The Sniper” Loman did more than enough to leave the Circle with a unanimous decision win.
At first, the cerebral pace of the bantamweight MMA contest allowed Loman and Shoko Sato to impede each other’s best offensive efforts. However, the Team Lakay star’s eventual aggression paid off when he landed a late takedown and followed up with ground-and-pound to seal the victory.
The well-earned win nudged the #3-ranked bantamweight contender’s record to 16-2 and kept him in the World Title hunt in a division loaded with red-hot challengers.
In a clash between two fierce Filipino strikers, Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado defeated #5-ranked strawweight contender Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang via TKO to score the biggest win of his MMA career.
The match was hotly contested, but it came to a premature ending when Adiwang suffered a leg injury at the 2:56 mark of the second round, forcing referee Olivier Coste to stop the fight for good.
A win is a win for Miado though, as he improved his record to 11-4 and secured his third straight victory in the process. With it, he might have just punched a ticket into the strawweight rankings. SCORE
