A team from former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano deliver grocery relief packs as aid to around 800 families in Baguio City and Itogon, Benguet in the wake of the destruction brought about by Tropical Storm Maring.

Around 800 families in Baguio City and Itogon, Benguet received grocery relief packs from the office of former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano on Saturday, October 16, in the wake of the destruction brought about by Tropical Storm Maring.

Cayetano's office also provided 100 immunity kits to affected families in Baguio City, where the storm left three dead after record-breaking rainfall levels triggered landslides in multiple parts of the city.

The donations were coursed through Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong and Rep. Mark Go of the Lone District of Baguio City, with assistance from the 5th Infantry Star Division and the 702nd Infantry Defender Brigade of the Philippine Army.

In Itogon town in Benguet, village council chairperson Edwin Atumpang received 200 grocery packs for residents of Barangay Tinongdan.

Tropical Storm Maring brought record levels of rainfall in Baguio, triggering flash floods and landslides in multiple parts of the city, including a deadly landslide that killed a man and two children in the Dominican Hill-Mirador area.

Baguio's social welfare office reported 564 individuals or a total of 140 families were affected by Tropical Storm Maring across the city, forcing at least 90 people to seek shelter in evacuation centers.

The storm also knocked down power in the city, as well as 43 other municipalities in the Cordillera region.

The Department of Agriculture pegged the damage to crops throughout northern Luzon due to last week's storm at P1.7 billion, affecting some 40,000 farmers.

Meanwhile, the National Risk Reduction and Management Council reported that Tropical Storm Maring impacted 50,040 families across seven regions in the country, and left 30 people dead in Northern Luzon and Palawan. SCORE
